SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP AFTERCARE

After any procedure with Charlotte Filep, you should use the following regime for 7 to 10 days or even till the scabs have fallen off:

1. Dry heal for the best results, keep the scabs on for as long as possible as the pigment is healing underneath. A snorkel mask can be used when showering providing it is tight to the skin and no water can enter it.
2. Use a gentle facial cleanser, avoiding the treated areas. Do not splash your face with water.
3. If the treated area does get wet, gently pat dry with a clean towel or tissue. Do not wipe or rub.

DO NOT expose the treated area to extreme heat or cold until fully healed. This includes sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas, etc.

DO NOT apply Vaseline to the treated area – it will make the area sweat, affecting the healing of the pigmented skin.

DO NOT scratch, pick or rub the treated area, as this will cause the colour to heal unevenly and could cause scarring or infection.

Eyebrow Aftercare

Wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to stop water running down your face and onto your eyebrows. During the first two days after treatment you will need to keep your fringe away from your eyebrows to avoid risking infection.

Eyeliner Aftercare

After eye procedures you may also find that your eyelashes stick together, and eyelids may appear red and puffy, but these symptoms will soon disappear.
It is an extremely rare occurrence after an eye treatment to display signs of conjunctivitis. In this instance you should get an antibiotic ointment from your doctor or a pharmacist.

General Post-Procedure Information

You may resume usual activities straight after treatment. You may experience a number of symptoms including flaking, tenderness, dryness and itching, swelling and/or redness. If you are feeling less than 100% healthy, your treatment may take longer to heal and symptoms may feel more severe.

The colour will be up to 50% darker straight after your treatment. It will fade over the first 4-7 days. It is normal to lose 1/3 of the colour during this initial period, and the true colour won’t come through until up to 4 weeks after the initial treatment – this is why you have to wait 4-6 weeks before you can have any further treatment. You may find that it looks as though the colour has disappeared during that time, as the healing skin may obscure the colour for a short time. Always use a sunscreen on permanent make-up to prevent colour change and loss.

We recommend that you return to Charlotte Filep once a year. Maintenance is minimal, and other guidelines for getting the best from your permanent make up will be given to you after your treatment.

In order to keep your semi-permanent brows in perfect condition, you may need to have a maintenance procedure between 6-18 months later. This varies according to the individual, and special prices are available for maintenance work.

To avoid pigment fade as far as possible, use at least SPF30 sunscreen or moisturiser, and avoid excess exposure to UV rays.

If you need to have an MRI scan, you should inform your radiologist that you have permanent make up, as this can sometimes appear on your scans.

Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your lip and eyebrow permanent make up. You should always let the laser technician know that you have had permanent make up so that they can act accordingly.

You will not be eligible to donate blood for at least 6 months after a procedure. Please inform the National Blood Service of the date of your procedure with Charlotte Filep when you next give blood.

Annual Retouches

Once you have had your initial semi-permanent make up procedure the colour will begin to fade gradually. The longevity of your result will depend on a number of factors including medication, exposure to the sun and the rate at which your skin exfoliates. On average the colour will remain visible for approximately three years, although you may have particles of pigment in the skin permanently

It is recommend to have a colour boost approximately every 12-18 months to keep your results looking fresh; this involves a single visit in most cases. We have found that clients with alopecia and any that have had or are having treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and acne procedures do not retain colour for as long, so retouches are required more frequently. To prolong colour retention we advise limited exposure to the sun and any products which may exfoliate the skin. The use of a barrier cream and sunscreen of at least 30 SPF are advised to protect your permanent make up whilst swimming or sunbathing.
